Interview: I-DLE's MINNIE On Being Part Of Skechers' Revamped Flagship Store In Singapore & More
Skechers, The Comfort Technology Company™ and a leader in performance footwear, recently marked the grand reopening of its expanded and revamped flagship store at Bugis Junction, Singapore. Now spanning more than 4,100 square feet, the upgraded space offers a bigger, bolder retail experience, drawing thousands of fans, shoppers, media representatives, and influencers from across Southeast Asia. Adding to the excitement, MINNIE (민니/มินนี่) of I-DLE (아이들) joined Skechers to officially unveil the store, electrifying the atmosphere with her appearance as fans cheered her on at every moment. We had the chance to catch up with the singer to talk about her special appearance, ongoing solo projects, and the possibility of future collaborations with Skechers. What was your first reaction when you were invited to be part of this Skechers event in Singapore? I was honestly so excited! I've always loved Skechers. So to be invited to such a big event in Singapore is truly an honour. It made me feel really special. You're known for blending comfort and cool styles. How does Skechers fit into your day-to-day wardrobe? Well, I think Skechers is the perfect fit for a comfortable yet stylish look. Personally, I like wearing something that's fashionable but also really comfortable, especially since I travel a lot and spend a lot of time practising. So I prefer footwear that I can wear all day without any discomfort, and I think Skechers really delivers on both comfort and style. So yes, I really like it. You wear both sneakers and high heels quite often, but if you had to choose between the two, which do you prefer? For daily life, definitely sneakers—they're just so comfortable, and I can walk around in them all day. Speaking of sneakers, what are your fashion tips for styling them well? I usually like wearing low-waisted baggy jeans with a crop top—it helps make my legs look longer. I'll sometimes add a cool belt to complete the look. If Skechers were to collaborate with you on a shoe design, what would you personally add to it? I really like the idea of having charms on shoes, so I think I'd design some cute ones that represent me. Since pink is my favourite colour, I'd probably add some pink accents or decorations throughout the design too. Your fashion sense is bold yet effortless. Who or what has been inspiring your style lately? Lately, I wouldn't say there's one specific person who inspires me. I think it really depends on my mood, the weather, or where I'm going. I tend to choose my outfits based on the occasion and how I'm feeling that day. You're one of the main vocalists for I-DLE and also pursue solo projects. How do you balance your group and solo activities? Wow, that's a tough one. I always prioritise our group schedules first—those come before anything else. Then, I focus on my solo activities whenever there's time. We usually manage our schedules by putting the group's commitments first, and I work on my own music whenever I have a bit of space. Lastly, fans loved your role in 'So Not Worth It' back in 2021. It's been a while—would you consider returning to acting? Oh, definitely yes! If I have the time and the opportunity to act again, I'd absolutely love to. The grand reopening ceremony also included exclusive fan experiences with MINNIE in a specially designated VIP Fan Zone. Guests were treated to a variety of engaging activities, including a Skechers charms bar where they could personalise their sneakers, as well as a themed photo booth experience. Skechers' new flagship store at Bugis Junction now joins its iconic outlet at Jewel Changi Airport as a key retail destination in Singapore, further strengthening the brand's presence while offering shoppers a dynamic blend of comfort, style, and innovation. M3GAN 2.0 Review: An AI Robotics Horror Turned 'Spy Kids' Movie
The sci-fi horror genre of how AI will be taking over the world has now become a common trope in movies, playing into the fear factor that the computing systems we use might grow to have their own consciousness. Yes, it's scary and downright creepy; however, how well could you portray a killer robot to have as much character development as an actual human? After its success in 2023 with its first movie, M3GAN returns to the box office with a big character development in her system. From a horror murder bot to a turned empathetic spy bot, M3GAN 2.0 follows the revival of the sensational Megan, but this time, she's not out for blood. Written and directed by Gerard Johnstone, the returning cast includes Violet McGraw, Allison Williams, Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps are joined by Aristotle Athari, Timm Sharp and Jemaine Clement. Two years after going rogue and embarking on a murderous rampage to protect Cady (Violet McGraw), and was later destroyed, M3GAN's creator, Gemma (Allison Williams), has become a successful author and an advocate for government oversight of AI. Without their knowledge, the core technology behind M3GAN has been stolen and repurposed by a powerful defence contractor to create AMELIA (Ivanna Sakhno), a deadly, high-tech infiltration weapon. However, as AMELIA gains self-awareness, she begins to rebel, losing interest in following human commands or even preserving human life at all. With humanity's survival at stake, Gemma realises she has only one choice: bring M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) back online and equip her with major upgrades to make her faster, stronger, and more dangerous than ever. Now, as these two advanced A.I.s face off, the original tech terror is about to face her most formidable rival yet. Yes, AI is here, and it's out to get you. But shaking off its camp-like quality, M3GAN 2.0 adopts a more empathetic nature, as though she had a system reboot after her destruction, and she installed a character development code in her system. We have to admit, what pulled viewers in from its predecessor was its play on the fear factor of rampaging demon robots who always know your next move. We get glimpses of that in its second edition, but what started as a play on horror turned upside down to what seems more like a 'Spy Kids' movie than anything. If you're looking for the original horror trope, don't be surprised since you won't find it here. M3GAN 2.0 plays heavily on its character development trope, where our protagonists learns that free will comes with great responsibility. Yes, our demonic conscious robot has softened up around the edges, but is that necessarily bad for the plot? Not really, as the direction brings forth a new direction on where the plot may expand to, rather than confining it to the premise of M3GAN wanting to kill everyone around her, she might just be one heck of a weapon to save the world. But is it refreshing and new? Probably not, as we're greeted by a plot that we've seen time and time again in any sci-fi action thriller out there. While the fighting scenes and sarcastic comebacks prove to be the highlight of entertainment for the movie, that's where it ends to keep viewers on the edge of their seats, since its plot has nothing of interest to bring forward the unique factor of what could be the next ground-breaking box office hit. The film displayed some amazing graphics with a full-fledged robotics fighting scene straight out of a game. The gags are quite funny, but with how the plot was stylised, it almost felt like a kids' movie, but with some blood splatters here and there. What differs from this movie is that the directors seem to have wanted to open up the film for a bigger set of audience, which was to minus the gore and horror completely from the movie. Not the best take when you introduced M3GAN as a demonic, on all fours running towards you in the woods type beat character. We do catch glimpses of its original horror feel when M3GAN tries to reach out to Cody by waking him up in the middle of the night by letting him know that she 'sees him', playing on the comedy factor of how our devices can track us wherever we are. There are a handful of moments which we found to have maintained their outright absurdity of the first movie, such as M3GAN literally dancing posed as a robot, her sarcastic comebacks (she's become chattier than ever) and M3GAN soothing Gemma by singing Kate Bush's 'This Woman's Work'. Overall, M3GAN 2.0 is amusing at times and morale-boosting at others. It's a new concept from what was introduced as a horror sci-fi, which has many rooms for improvement in retaining its viewership with its new plot line. It's amusing and could borderline on 'Spy Kids', but a great sit-at-home movie when you've got nothing else to stream. Interview: K-Pop Group CRAVITY On Performing In Malaysia, Their Latest Comeback & Future Plans
After rocking the stage at 'K-Pop Masterz 2025', the boys of CRAVITY (크래비티) are back with a new image and new music! The nine-membered group recently dropped their second full-length album, 'Dare To Crave', and the title track, 'SET NET G0?' – marking a bold return. We recently got to talk to CRAVITY to learn more about their comeback and their new release. At the same time, we got to learn what the boys thought about performing in Malaysia for the first time, what they did when they were in town, and upcoming projects. Keep reading to learn more! Q. Your performance at 'K-Pop Masterz 2025' on 31st May was your first time performing in Malaysia since your debut in 2020. How did it feel to finally perform for Malaysian LUVITYs? Jungmo: Firstly, the reactions from our Malaysian fans were amazing. We saw them jumping up and enjoying the performance, so we felt energised by them while we were performing. We made a lot of memories together, and we want to go back! Minhee: It was fire! Q. For Taeyoung, it seems that Malaysia has a special place in your heart because you spent your childhood here. How did it feel to return to Malaysia after so many years? Taeyoung: Malaysia felt like my hometown, and I really enjoyed being there! The weather was so nice and I loved the food. The food was what I had expected, so it was really delicious! Q. I'm sure Taeyoung has spoken about Malaysia in the past. To the other members, what was it like visiting Malaysia for the first time? What was your first impression? CRAVITY: It's a beautiful country! Allen: The Petronas Twin Towers were very beautiful! Woobin: The night view was very beautiful. Jungmo: The food was so delicious! CRAVITY: ROTI BOOM! Hyeongun: Right, the food was great. Allen: Very good! Delicioso! Q. We know the members had time to go sightseeing in Kuala Lumpur before the concert. What did you guys do while in the city? Did you guys try any Malaysian food? Wonjin: We met Stitch! Taeyoung: Yeah, we met Stitch! And we went to see the Petronas Twin Towers, and we did some shopping. We also ate a lot of food. Allen: Wait, you saw Stitch? From 'Lilo and Stitch'? Where? Wonjin: At the mall (Pavilion Kuala Lumpur)! There was a pop-up store. Q. Let's talk about your comeback: CRAVITY is set to make their comeback on 23rd June, with a new full-length album. Can you share more about this comeback? Seongmin: We're back with our first full-length album in 3 years. There are 12 tracks total, and our members participated more than ever in creating this album. We hope you look forward to it! Q. The title track 'SET, NET, G0' is described as an electrifying dance track driven by dreamy pluck synths, a pulsating synth bass, and catchy vocal chops. What do you think is the key point of this track? Wonjin: There is a repeating guitar riff and drop that goes with our powerful and impressive performance. That part makes a strong impression, so please look forward to it. Q. Since it's been a while since your last Korean comeback, what do you think has been the biggest change? What can fans look forward to in the upcoming release? Wonjin: All of our members participated in writing lyrics and songs for this album, so I think each of our members included personal messages they wanted to share with LUVITY. It would be great if you paid close attention to the emotions that our members shared through those parts. Q. The comeback is also significant because it's in celebration of CRAVITY's 5th anniversary. What are you hoping to achieve with this new album? Do you have any specific goals? Taeyoung: Since this is our second full-length album, and it marks a major comeback, we hope to reach a new career-high with this album. Q. As we know, the members also took part in creating the songs in the new album. Can you guys share more about your roles in the composition and lyric-making of the songs? Wonjin: For me, I was the DJ for STATION-Z, and I met BrotherSu when he came out as the guest for the program. We connected then, and we wrote songs here and there. This time it started with the message I wanted to share with our fans, and that's how we came up with 'Wish Upon A Star'. Q. Besides the title track, which song from the album is your personal favourite? And which one would you recommend to the public trying to get to know about CRAVITY? Allen: My favourite is 'Underdog'. It's a song given to us by our big brother, JOOHONEY of Monsta X. And it's a very special song to us as well because it contains lyrics that tell our story. It's a very 'CRAVITY-core' and lore-accurate song, so I would recommend it to the public trying to learn more about us. Q. We're halfway through 2025. Do you have any projects planned for the second half of the year that you can share about? Maybe even solo projects? Jungmo: We're having a concert! CRAVITY: Yeah! *claps and cheers* Taeyoung: We're having our solo concert at the biggest venue of our career so far! Hyeongjun: And we're performing at KCON LA! Allen: But about the concert, if you guys want to watch us, you have to come to Seoul! It's a show you don't want to miss! Q. Since you have a new album coming soon, can fans expect a new tour as well? Will CRAVITY return to Malaysia someday? Hyeongjun: We don't have plans for a tour just yet, but if we have the opportunity to go to Malaysia again, we will definitely go. Please come to see us! Q. Can you share a few words for the Malaysian LUVITYs? Wonjin: We will never forget our first time visiting our Malaysian LUVITY, and we miss you already.
